BaZi vs. Western Astrology: Inputs, Symbols, and Timing

Compare a Stem-Branch calendar chart with a planet-and-zodiac birth chart.

BaZi and Western astrology both build symbolic charts from birth information, but they use different historical systems and symbols.

BaZi converts year, month, day, and hour into Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches. It emphasizes the Day Master, Five Element relationships, Ten Gods, Luck Pillars, and annual Stem-Branch cycles.

Western natal astrology commonly maps the apparent positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, angles, zodiac signs, and houses for a birth time and place. Timing may involve transits, progressions, and other techniques.

Similar words such as element, chart, or cycle do not mean the systems are mathematically interchangeable. A Fire Day Master is not the same thing as a Fire zodiac sign, and one chart cannot be converted directly into the other.

Both are cultural interpretive traditions rather than scientifically validated personal forecasting tools. Compare them to understand their languages, not to force one system to prove the other.
