The Ten Gods in BaZi: A Beginner’s Guide Without the Jargon
“Ten Gods” sounds mystical, but in BaZi it is a technical classification system. The labels describe how another stem relates to the Day Master through its element and yin-yang polarity. They are not literal gods, moral judgments, or guaranteed life events.
The ten labels are usually grouped into five pairs: Companion and Rob Wealth; Eating God and Hurting Officer; Direct Wealth and Indirect Wealth; Direct Officer and Seven Killings; Direct Resource and Indirect Resource. English names vary among translators, so it is more important to understand the relationship than to memorize every term.
For example, a “Wealth” label describes an element that the Day Master controls in the traditional five-element model. It does not predict a salary, a lottery win, or financial success. An “Officer” label describes an element that controls the Day Master; traditional readers may connect it with rules, responsibility, structure, or pressure. Context decides whether a relationship is supportive, demanding, or simply present.
Start by learning one relationship at a time. Ask which label is connected to the annual pillar, then read a plain-language explanation beside the technical term. Avoid treating any one label as a verdict about career, romance, health, or personality. A full chart, timing method, and school of interpretation all affect the reading.

“十神”听起来神秘，但在八字中它是一套技术分类方式。它根据五行与阴阳属性，描述其他天干和日主之间的关系。十神不是字面意义上的神，也不是道德判断或必然发生的事件。
十个标签常分为五组：比肩与劫财、食神与伤官、正财与偏财、正官与七杀、正印与偏印。不同译者的英文名称会有差异，因此理解关系本身比死记术语更重要。
例如，“财”表示在五行模型中被日主所克的元素，并不预测工资、中奖或一定发财。“官”表示克制日主的元素，传统解读可能把它与规则、责任、结构或压力联系起来。它是支持、要求较高，还是只是一种存在，都取决于整体背景。
建议一次只学习一种关系。先看目标流年的天干对应什么标签，再把术语与旁边的白话解释一起读。不要用某一个十神给职业、感情、健康或人格下结论；完整命盘、时间方法和流派都会影响解释。
