How to Read the Ten Gods Shown in a BaZi Chart

Ten Gods: Read the Relationship, Not Just the Label

Ten Gods are relational labels. They are calculated from the Day Master, the other stem or branch element, and polarity. A label is not permanently attached to a character and is not a simple good-or-bad score.

Start with the Day Master. For each displayed Ten Gods label, identify its chart position, the element relationship, and whether the relationship is visible or hidden. Then ask how that position interacts with the rest of the chart.

Example: the same Earth stem can receive different labels for a Xin Metal Day Master and a Jia Wood Day Master. The label changes because the reference point changes. This is why memorizing isolated keyword definitions produces unreliable readings.

A practical workflow: verify the four pillars; confirm the Day Master; read the Ten Gods table; map each label back to its pillar; compare repeated or supported relationships; record which traditional school or definition the page uses.

Common errors include treating Direct Wealth as a promise of money, treating Officer as a guaranteed job, or treating Eating God as a fixed personality. Traditional meanings are interpretive categories. Use them for study and reflection, not as substitutes for evidence or professional advice.
