How to place Seal and Inverted Food back into a relational chain

Compare Seal's generation and protection with interruption of the Food–Wealth–Officer chain, retaining controlled exceptions, absence of Food and the old poem's strength qualification.

Original site reading · Figures drawn for this series · Ancient quotations and sources are noted below

Seal supports the person and protects Officer in one passage, yet is discussed as Inverted Food in another. Asking only whether the label is good encourages contradictory slogans. The inspected Sanming tonghui text instead asks what Seal connects to, which chain is interrupted and what qualifies the exceptions.

The Qin Shen'an/Wenming witness is catalogued as 1926. 論印綬 begins with its heading at the end of juan 5, scan 90, printed page 31; its prose starts on scan 91, printed page 32. 論倒食 occurs at scan 97, printed page 38. [1][2][3] Small-type aliases, main text and a separately introduced old poem are different layers, not one newly unified rule.

Generation and protection establish Seal's directions

The Seal prose begins 印綬者,乃五行生我之名, “Seal is the name for what, among the Five Phases, generates me.” It gives monthly examples, calls this the source of my qi, generating qi and parents, and says 能護我官,使無傷尅, “It can protect my Officer from injury and control.” [1] Generation supplies a relational direction, parents and official insignia historical naming comparisons, and protecting Officer an account of operation.

These layers connect without substituting for one another. Generation does not prove actual parental care, and protecting Officer does not establish job security. The previous Wealth article considered what I control. This passage shows how adopting another operative entry requires Wealth and Seal to be connected afresh.

The page says 忌財星,以財能破印, “Wealth is avoided because it can damage Seal.” [1] That is a local reason within a Seal-based discussion, not a statement that Wealth is unfavorable in every heading. The same page proceeds to a qualification involving original Wealth damage and a Peer/Rob Wealth cycle.

The preference for weakness has a subsequent qualification

The page explicitly states 凡格喜身旺,惟印綬喜身弱。若元局帶財傷印,運行比劫,身旺亦能發福。無則不宜. Our translation: “Patterns generally favor a strong person; Seal alone favors weakness. If the original configuration contains Wealth damaging Seal and the cycle passes through Peer/Rob Wealth, strength can also bring benefit. Without this, it is unsuitable.” [1]

We record this passage's formulation and turn rather than claim a universal rule checked against the entire book. The factors following “if” matter: original Wealth damage, the cycle, personal strength and “also” are connected. The preceding weakness statement is not the only formula once its qualification is retained. Nor does the page supply a website percentage threshold for strength.

Other 官印 sayings carry 又云 or 經云 quotation labels. We use secure short passages instead of a long sentence with similar-looking 日/曰 characters, and do not claim independent collation of every quoted canon.

Inverted Food is more than an Indirect Seal label

論倒食 begins 倒食即偏印之謂, “Inverted Food refers to Indirect Seal,” with further aliases including Swallowing Sha. [2] This does not make the remainder redundant. The prose next specifies a Food-linked chain:

如甲生丙火為食,火能生土為甲之財,財旺生金為甲之官,食神生旺,財官備矣. Our translation: “For example, Jia generates Bing Fire as Food; Fire can generate Earth as Jia's Wealth; flourishing Wealth generates Metal as Jia's Officer. With Food Spirit vital and flourishing, Wealth and Officer are provided.” [2]

We record Jia—Bing Fire/Food—Earth/Wealth—Metal/Officer as this paragraph's chain. Officer is the word used here; we do not silently classify all Metal as Direct Officer, whose further polarity distinction needs its own qualifications. This is the text's symbolic chain, not a model of a reader's actual career or income.

The following explanation uses Jia encountering Ren and Ren controlling Bing to describe interruption: Bing cannot continue generating Earth, affecting Food's generation of Wealth. The reason for harming Food lies in this relation, not merely the presence of a Seal label. Our diagram uses the secure excerpt and original directional explanation, without filling an uncertain long character string from a familiar version.

“These” and “because there is control” reconnect the exceptions

After specific control and combination examples, the page states 此等偏印,不能為食害,有制尅故也. Our translation: “These Indirect Seals cannot harm Food, because there is control.” It adds conditions involving personal strength and generated Wealth and Officer, then says 柱中無食,只以偏印論, “If there is no Food in the pillars, discuss it only as Indirect Seal.” [2]

“These” points back to the particular example group; “because there is control” supplies its reason. Extracting “Indirect Seal cannot harm Food” as a universal rule erases both. Extracting only the opening warning about Food Spirit encountering it erases the same page's actual exceptions.

The no-Food statement also requires checking whether the chain to be interrupted exists. A shared name does not establish a shared target in every situation. It does not declare Indirect Seal invariably favorable whenever Food is absent; other evaluative conditions still need examination.

The poem's Wealth statement cannot be transferred without its scope

The page separately introduces 古詩云, “an old poem says,” followed by 印星偏者是梟神,柱內最喜見財星,身旺遇此方為福. Our translation: “An Indirect Seal star is Xiao; it most favors Wealth in the pillars; with personal strength, this can bring benefit.” [2] Strength and “only then” qualify the statement, and the poem label identifies its expression layer.

This cannot be reconciled with the Seal paragraph's avoidance of Wealth merely by asking whether Wealth is good. The Seal paragraph enters through generation and protection; Inverted Food through Food's interruption and controlled combinations; the poem also requires personal strength. Compare the operative factors and their targets before discarding those entries.

One interruption does not describe every configuration

Fictional reading A says: “Indirect Seal appears, so the Wealth–Officer chain necessarily breaks.” It checks neither Food's presence nor controlled exceptions. Reading B says: “The poem favors Wealth, so the Seal paragraph's avoidance is invalid.” It removes two different operative entries.

Reading C first draws the inspected chain, then records its interrupting factor, the preceding specific examples' control/combination qualifications, and the separate no-Food entry. It neither treats all Indirect Seal situations alike nor erases the compilation's different voices for premature consistency.

These are textual diagrams and reading exercises without birth dates or judgments about people. Explanations, table, diagram and translations are original. The scope is the specified witness pages, not full-book Seal collation or proof of a real-world predictive mechanism.
